Face Search Guidelines

Enhancing Analytics Performance

Position your cameras following these guidelines to achieve the most reliable results with People Analytics features.

Head Angle

For best results with face search and Person of Interest alerts, cameras should capture faces head-on, directly facing the camera, and as close as possible. The angle of captured faces should fall within the following range:

Distance to Camera

For effective person detection and facial recognition, a minimum level of detail is required, measured as pixels per foot (PPF). As the distance from the camera increases, the PPF decreases. The PPF at a specific distance depends on the camera’s field of view and image resolution.

To determine the PPF value at your desired detection distance, divide the camera's horizontal pixel count by the width in feet of the camera’s horizontal field of view (HFoV).

Lighting

Lighting conditions can affect the performance of People Analytics. Consistent, bright lighting provides the most accurate and reliable results. Low-light scenes, direct sunlight, or high-contrast lighting may reduce performance. For optimal results, People Analytics typically requires a minimum light level of 250 lux, which can be measured using a standard lux meter.
